How this guide was reviewed
The workflow was reviewed against hands-on phone-repair and device-inspection experience, then checked against the limits of current browser access. Browser observations, user-confirmed checks, and items that require operating-system, carrier, manufacturer, or physical inspection remain separate.
Settings can disable haptics without a hardware failure
Phones often separate vibration behavior for calls, silent mode, keyboard feedback, system interactions, and accessibility features. Before diagnosing the motor or haptic engine, confirm the relevant setting is actually enabled.
A phone may vibrate for one event and remain silent for another by design.
Use several built-in events
Trigger a system event that normally produces haptic feedback, then compare an incoming call or notification, keyboard feedback, and any manufacturer vibration test that is available. A consistent failure across several built-in events is more meaningful than one app not vibrating.
Keep the phone in your hand and also place it on a firm surface, because a weak vibration can be easier to detect by sound or movement.
Listen for rattling or abnormal mechanical noise
A haptic motor can sometimes move but sound loose, harsh, or uneven. A rattle after a drop or repair deserves inspection, especially if the vibration strength changed at the same time.
Do not repeatedly run vibration at maximum intensity for long periods just to stress the component.
Browsers cannot directly certify the vibration hardware
Web vibration support varies by browser and operating system, and some platforms restrict it entirely. A missing browser vibration response may reflect platform policy rather than a broken phone. Manual operating-system checks are more reliable for this function.
Continue the inspection
Keep testing with a second signal.
A useful diagnosis usually comes from comparing more than one symptom. These related guides can help you build a fuller picture.
